Professionalization Digital Media
The federal and state governments have made a significant contribution to teacher education in Germany with the jointly organized "Quality Offensive Teacher Education". With a grant of around 500 million euros, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports selected universities in their efforts to improve the implementation of teacher training in the long term. In the first funding phase 49 projects were implemented, involving 59 universities. In 2019, the second funding phase started with 48 projects and 58 universities in all provinces and runs until the end of 2023.
The RWTH Aachen University belongs to the three universities from North Rhine-Westphalia with their concept "Being Different Together - Teacher Education at the RWTH Aachen University", whose projects are further funded. As part of an intensive analysis of strengths and weaknesses, a cooperative, broad discussion process was used to identify the key challenges in teacher education. With the concept "Being Different Together", the three dimensions "heterogeneity in education and professionalization processes", "strengthening practical relevance and professionalization" as well as "support structures for the whole of teacher education" are linked together.
Dealing with digital media is an element in the interdisciplinary field of professionalisation of the master's program. In the professionalization area "Digital Media", various offers are designed and offered for teaching students and teachers. The responsibility for this area will be taken over by Ms. Deborah Hennig from the Institute for Educational Science.
Funding period of the project "Being Different Together - Teacher Education at RWTH Aachen University" (LeBiAC): 01.01.2019 to 31.12.2023.
